PISTOL by Carson Pytell

Van Gogh’s rusted pistol was sold

For a little south of two hundred grand,

And they weren’t even sure

It was really the one he used

When life had become too much:

Too little; just the wrong amount

To have to bear between paintings,

Between trying to feed himself,

When he decided to pull the trigger

And the unintentional, most masterful

Publicity stunt of the century.
